In the Last Days book, we pointed out two interesting verses:
Luke 17:30-31 says in the context of the Lord’s return,
It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything.
Matthew 24:15-18 says in the context of the abomination of desolation,
So when you see standing in the holy place “the abomination that causes desolation” spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand—then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak.
When Luke heard these instructions, he put them in the context of the Son of Man being revealed. When Matthew heard these instructions, he put them in the context of the abomination of desolation.
The abomination of desolation and the Lord’s return to gather the church are nearly simultaneous.
The above are in the Last Days book.
Let’s add another verse and make this three interesting verses:
We’ve made a connection above with Matthew 24 and Luke 17. Now we’ll make a connection between the Matthew 24 verses and verses in Luke 21.
Luke 21:20-21 says in the context of Jerusalem being surrounded by armies,
When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written.
Three interesting verses, three interesting events, and the links with Matthew 24:15-18 tell us they happen nearly simultaneously:
1) Jerusalem surrounded by armies (Luke 21:20-21)
2) The abomination of desolation (Matthew 24:15-18)
3) The Lord’s return (Luke 17:30-31)
